Over time, hard water causes sediment buildup in the water heater. This can turn to rust and end up in the water you are drinking or cooking with.
As you prepare your home for winter, try draining the water heater to remove some of the sediment. If you find that the water is coming out is rusted, CONSIDER PURCHASING A NEW WATER HEATER FROM BUILDERS LIQUIDATORS before it gets even colder so you have reliable hot water this winter!

FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE STEPS:
- Turn off the cold water supply valve.
- Attach a hose to the drain valve located at the bottom of the tank.
- Open the drain valve, and allow the water to drain completely.
- While draining, open the pressure relief valve to facilitate water flow.
- Close both valves once the tank is empty.
ALWAYS REMEMBER TO TURN THE WATER SUPPLY BACK ON AND CHECK FOR LEAKS AFTERWARDS!
